Starting in 2017, the business owner set out to develop the best-quality cruiser skateboard on the market. The owner, also a skateboard enthusiast, visited factory after factory until they found a supplier that shared their vision of high-quality, well-designed products. The result was a premium product geared toward those who value quality and design. Somewhat unexpectedly, the skateboard became a popular gift for kids and teenagers as their first skateboard. The owner doubled down and created a range of skateboard designs and products that meet the needs of discerning parents and their children.

As the new owner, you’ll take over an Amazon US-only marketplace business with strong manufacturer and supply chain relationships and no staff. The owner has run this as a lifestyle business, working primarily in Q4, where the business earned 79% of 2023 revenue, and spending very little time on the business during Q1–Q3. The top five products represented 85% of the 2023 revenue, which was $527,921. SDE in 2023 was $71,629 despite a high ad spend at 20% of revenue, a key area to optimize.

There are ample opportunities to improve and grow the business. While Q4 sales have always been strong, Google Trends suggests that there is year-round demand for this product. A focus on running the business year-round could increase yearly revenues while reducing ad spend as a percentage of revenue by removing the need to re-rank each Q4. Given the products are visually stunning and appeal to a younger demographic, Meta and TikTok ads could prove to be fruitful as well. Finally, the owner introduced complementary products in 2023 that sold very well, and the owner anticipates growth in those product lines.

This business should be especially attractive to buyers with both on- and off-Amazon performance advertising experience and those wanting a streamlined supply chain with a small, focused product line.
