Launched in 2017, this business began when the seller was 38 weeks pregnant with her first baby. She was shopping for a modern, minimalist baby gym alternative, but she could not find anything that fit her taste and budget. With the help of her husband, she decided to build her own.
The business launched on Etsy in September 2017. For the first year and a half, the seller and her husband built wooden baby gyms out of their garage in the evenings after the baby was asleep until they could find solid manufacturers for all of their products. They launched on Shopify in October 2019.
Outside of the two platforms, they also drop-ship orders for Babylist, Nordstrom, West Elm, Maisonette, the Tot, and Project Nursery. There is a trend in the market for parents seeking products that are tasteful, functional, and made with heirloom quality. All of the products are safety tested and certified with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
This lifestyle business has been a low workload for the seller. She has been able to maintain the business working 5-10 hours per week from home.
There are several growth opportunities for a new owner. Wholesale is a massive opportunity. Given the number of brands they are currently drop-shipping, the seller believes this would be a great channel. Another growth area would be to expand the mats they are selling to the drop-shippers. A third growth opportunity would be influencer marketing. They have never paid for an influencer campaign, but given the trends in the market, it seems this would be a great way to get the product in front of families looking for high-quality, safe, and functional items for babies. Finally, selling on Amazon under a different brand would allow for the price to be lower and more competitive with the Amazon ecosystem. The products are intended to be more luxurious than the items consistently selling on Amazon.
